This British crime drama from Paul Marquess (creator of Suspects) focuses on the cases of an elite investigative team on the London police force. Hugo Speer plays DI David Bradford, the team leader who is returning after a leave of absence, and Sharon Small is second-in-command DS Vivienne Cole who, having commanded the unit in his absence, now clashes with Bradford when he's back in charge. The first season presents four investigations over five episodes but one unsolved case hangs over the entire season: the disappearance of Bradford's wife, which prompted his initial absence and may be affecting his performance as he becomes critical of and short-tempered with Cole. Bailey Patrick and Tori Allen-Martin fill out the team and Jennie Jacques costars as a witness in the first case who becomes romantically involved with one of the investigators and turns out to have a connection to other cases, including Bradford's absent wife. Produced for Acorn TV, which specializes in British crime shows, London Kills doesn't necessarily stand out from similar investigation dramas, but it’s a reasonably satisfying and engaging series that should appeal to fans of the genre. Compiling all five episodes from the 2019 first season, extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette. A strong optional purchase. (S. Axmaker)
