Fuller House: The Complete Second Season

Warner, 2 discs, 367 min., not rated, DVD: $24.98

Reviewer rating: 2.5/4

The sophomore season of this Netflix-produced sequel to the popular 1990s sitcom focuses heavily on the love life of D.J. Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure), who finds that she may have waited too long to decide between her veterinarian business partner Matt (John Brotherton) and her blast-from-the-past divorced high school soulmate Steve (Scott Weinger). Meanwhile, sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) has a sweet story arc romance with wacky roommate friend Kimmy Gibbler’s (Andrea Barber) younger brother (Adam Hagenbuch). And Juan Pablo Di Pace is moved up to a series regular as Fernando, a melodramatic Latin racecar driver and Kimmy’s on-again-off-again baby daddy. In addition to the all of the sometimes-bordering-on-racy adult dramedy and dance routines (Bollywood and an appearance by New Kids on the Block feature here), there are still the trials and tribulations of the four children living in the house, whose issues range from first haircuts to viral video fallouts. Also featuring appearances by former Full House cast members including Bob Saget and John Stamos, this nostalgia-packed saccharine fest is an easy empty-calorie binge. Compiling all 13 episodes from the 2016 second season, this is a strong optional purchase. (J. Williams-Wood)
